San Jose Sharks defenseman Matt Carle will rejoin the team in Phoenix on Friday and is expected to make his return to the lineup on Saturday against the Coyotes.
Carle, 22, and right wing Steve Bernier were assigned to the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League, on Jan. 2. In three games with Worcester, Carle recorded two points (0-2=2) and posted a plus-1 player rating.
Despite being out of the lineup for the past five games, Carle continues to lead all Sharks defensemen with 21 points (3-18=21). The six-foot, 205-pound native of Anchorage, Alaska was selected by San Jose in the second round (47th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
In a related move, the Sharks placed right wing Scott Parker on the Injured Reserve list.
