SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that defenseman Brent Burns (@Burnzie88) has been selected as the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) "Sharks Player of the Month" for March.
Burns led the Sharks in points (17), was 2nd in assists (11) and registered a point in 12 of the 16 contests the Sharks played in the month of March. He currently ranks 2nd amongst all NHL defensemen in points (74), 1st in goals (27) and is 3rd in assists (47). More so, Burns leads all NHL defensemen in power-play points (29) and ranks 7th in average ice time with 25:54 played per game.
Burns tallied six points (3g,3a) in wins over Washington, Boston and Los Angeles while totaling eight multi-point games in March. The Barrie, Ontario, native set a club record for points in season by a Sharks defenseman with an assist in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Mar. 21, and set a franchise record for most goals in a single season by a blueliner with a goal on March 28 vs. Los Angeles
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to the Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
This is the 5th player of the month recognition for Burns.
