San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns is an avid traveler, annually packing his wife, two kids and two Siberian huskies into their Mercedes Sprinter after each season for treks across North America.
Burns' hockey season went later than usual in 2015-16, when the Sharks reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in their history. But the trip has begun.
Burns is chronicling the venture by posting pictures of their trip, which stretched across the southwest of the United States over the weekend.
After falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in the Cup Final, Burns packed up his RV and took to Las Vegas for the 2016 NHL Awards. Burns mingled with Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, then finished third in the Norris Trophy voting behind Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators and the award's winner, Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings.
After the NHL Awards, Burns and his family went south, taking in the Grand Canyon before stops at Bearizona Wildlife Park in Williams, Ariz. and Billy the Kid's gravesite in Fort Sumner, N.M.
NHL.com will monitor the trip and update with any developments.
