SAN JOSE, California – Hockey Canada today announced that San Jose Sharks (@sanjosesharks) defensemen Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic, and forwards Logan Couture and Joe Thornton have been invited to attend Team Canada’s national men’s team orientation camp in Calgary, AB on Aug. 25-28.
In preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia in February, the orientation camp will offer an opportunity for the Hockey Canada management and coaching staff to present the players with the team’s plans such as playing systems, international rules and regulations and logistics. Hockey Canada held similar camps prior to the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The camp consists of 47 players; five goaltenders, 17 defensemen and 25 forwards.
Thornton represented Canada at the previous two Olympic Winter Olympics (2006 and 2010), capturing the gold medal in 2010. Boyle was also a member of the 2010 gold-medal winning squad.
This is the first invitation to the Team Canada’s Olympic national men’s team orientation camp for Couture and Vlasic. Both have previously represented Team Canada at other international events.
The Sharks are tied for second among all NHL teams in player invites to Team Canada national men’s team orientation camp (Chicago, 5; San Jose and Pittsburgh, 4).
