San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled forward Ben Ferriero from the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League and reassigned forward John McCarthy to Worcester
Ferriero has played in 22 games with San Jose this season, posting five points (two goals, three assists), a plus-four rating and six penalty minutes.
In 22 games with Worcester, Ferriero is T-3rd on the team (T-8th among all AHL rookies) with 25 points (ten goals, 15 assists) and a plus-five rating, . Along with fellow Sharks prospect Logan Couture
, he was named Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for December. In 10 games, Ferriero recorded 15 points (six goals, nine assists) and a plus-8 rating.
McCarthy made his NHL debut on Jan. 9 vs. Detroit and played in four games with San Jose. He has appeared in 36 games with Worcester in his first professional season, posting 18 points (six goals, 12 assists), a team-high plus-14 and 19 penalty minutes. He recently posted a seven-game point streak from Dec. 18 thru Jan. 2 (four goals, four assists).
McCarthy was a co-captain of the 2009 NCAA Champion Boston University men’s hockey team. McCarthy was originally selected by San Jose in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft (7th round, 202nd overall).
