It’s been a busy year for Sharks defenseman Ian White.
Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the 26-year-old has played for the Hurricanes, Flames and the Sharks. But thankfully for White, his luck seems to run in threes. With his assist in overtime against Nashville on March 8, White became the first player to record overtime points with three different teams in the same season.
Following along with this trending theme of threes, this week we accepted questions for “Ask the Sharks” on three different mediums: email, text and – new this week – Twitter.
Below are the best questions we received from you and the answers we got from Ian.1.How difficult has it been playing for three different teams in three different systems in one season? – cbivens7 via Twitter
It’s pretty difficult. This is the easiest one I’ve had to adjust to which makes it a lot better. But it was a tough adjustment going from Toronto to Calgary and it was a tough adjustment going to Carolina as well. The type of players we have in the locker room, the coaching and the systems we have really fit my style of game. 2.What was your reaction when you knew that you were traded to the Sharks? – ET_NHL via Twitter
I was very excited to get a chance to come to one of the top teams in the League that’s continuously one of the best. It’s really exciting and I’m happy to be a part of it.
3.Ian, what about this current team do you enjoy more than any previous teams that you’ve played for in the past? – cydjericho via Twitter
Winning consistently.4.Being a Shark, what has been your best experience so far and who’s the most exciting player to play with? – Chrisnoway via Twitter
My favorite player is my D-partner Niclas Wallin and my best experience so far was being a part of that big winning streak we had.5.Hi Ian! What did you think when you skated through the Sharkshead in your first home game with the Sharks? – yoda24man via Twitter
It was pretty smoky and I was just hoping not to fall because I couldn’t see where I was going.
6.The Sharks talked about you complimenting Dan Boyle. How much will it benefit the Sharks to have you two on the same line? – MattWMcG via Twitter
I’m not sure if we’re going to be line mates, but maybe we’ll play together on the power play. He’s obviously a great, skilled player and a great power play quarterback so I can learn a lot from watching him and hopefully playing with him.7.What bands are you listening to right now? – hacnik via Twitter
I listen to mostly country, but I like classic rock as well.
8.Ian, what is your favorite song to work out to? – Octavio via E-mail
Probably anything Metallica. You caught me off guard. Give me a second, I’ll think of something. You know, I don’t even have an iPod. I’m probably one of the last people that doesn’t have one. I guess anything Metallica gets me fired up and makes me want to throw the weights around.9.What’s your greatest hockey memory? – Octavio via E-mail
Probably the 2003 World Juniors in Halifax. I had a lot of fun times there and made a lot of friends on the team.10.What was your favorite team growing up?
- Laurel F. via Text
It was Pittsburgh when Mario (Lemieux) was playing there and when he retired I started liking the Avalanche. And as soon as the Sharks started – well I guess the Sharks would be first (laughs). I’ve been a 20-year Sharks fan…since I was six.
