The 40-year-old All-Star was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 3, 2008 and has scored 53 points (12 goals and 41 assists) in 97 games with the Sharks. Blake was named the Sharks captain on Sept. 30, 2009.

The 6-foot-4, 220 pound native of Simcoe, Ontario was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft (4th Round, 70th overall). Over his 19-year NHL career, Blake has scored 235 goals and 520 assists in 1,224 games.

The accomplished blueliner has been selected to three Canadian Olympic teams, winning a gold medal in 2002. Blake has also taken home the NHL’s Norris Memorial Trophy as the League’s top defenseman.

Blake spent his childhood living on a farm and has said that if he didn’t play hockey, he would have been a farmer.
