Rob Blake will be the next player featured on our weekly segment of “Ask the Sharks.” If you have a question you would like to ask the 39-year-old defenseman, E-mail it to email@example.com
Since being signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 3, 2008, Blake has made an immediate impact. The 6-foot-4 defenseman registered two assists in his Sharks debut on Oct. 9 against Anaheim and his six shots in the second period tied a franchise individual record for most shots in a period (15th time in Sharks history).
Currently, the Simcoe, Ontario native is tied for 10th amongst NHL defensemen in
points (34) and goals (nine). He’s also tied for ninth in shots (140) and third for penalty
Blake was originally drafted by the Kings in 1988 and played 12 seasons in Los Angeles. During that time, Rob’s son Jack became a big fan of Sharks center Joe Thornton
and would often wear his jersey to the games. When he captained the Kings, Blake asked his son not to wear Thornton’s jersey to the games when they played in L.A.
Outside the rink, Blake appeared as himself in “The Love Guru,” a Mike Myers film that was released last summer.
