The 21-year-old has started this season strong. In 12 games, Couture has scored six points (five goals and an assist) and battled in the first fight of his National Hockey League career. To top it off, the Sharks 2007 first round pick in the NHL Entry Draft was moved to the top line after Joe Thornton’s two-game suspension and scored two points in the Sharks 5-2 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Even though he completed 25 games for San Jose last year, the 6-foot-1 native of Guelph, Ontario is still considered a rookie. NHL rules state that a player needs to play at least 26 games in one season to qualify as a rookie. So Couture was only one game shy of shedding his rookie status.
