Here are my answers to your Seagate Technology "In The Crease" questions. Keep the questions coming.
Can Anaheim play to their current level all season?
They will have some bumps, but looking at their team, they have great youth, they have a very sound defense and all their forward lines have the potential to score. Saying that, when one player is struggling, there are plenty of guys who can pick up the slack. I played with Randy Carlyle and I believe he will play who is playing best (competition from within) and that will benefit the team.
Watching St. Louis and Philadelphia struggling, is there an Ovechkin or Crosby awaiting one of the clubs in this summer’s draft?
I don’t hear the hype that was there with a Crosby. Is it a down year, only time will tell. There will be some scouts that look like geniuses and some that will wish they had their picks back down the line.
Who is going to come out on top in the crazy Northwest Division?
I’m going to say Edmonton. Edmonton doesn’t know the word quit. They skate very, very well and they roll four lines. Over the course of the season, they will get their points based on the fact that they keep coming and coming and coming (lots of speed in continuous waves).
Who do you think is the top D-man in the league?
Scott Niedermayer. He sometimes doesn’t get the credit he deserves because he skates so well and makes difficult plays look easy. There is nobody in the league who has the area of influence on the ice he has during the course of play.
Ovechkin or Crosby?
It depends on your team, but probably Crosby. It also depends on what your needs are. I believe Crosby gives you a little more leadership and is a great playmaker. He can run your power play and, because he is a center, he is in a position to better run your offense. Ovechkin really is a game breaker. He is a winger who probably won’t get the puck as much as a center, but he is somebody who really competes every night and is a huge bonus to any team he is on.
It will be interesting with the standings the way they are, with some teams being very successful and some teams falling off, whose names will become trade speculation. Some of the issues that surround these trades are salary cap room, years left on current contracts, time until free agency and who is a good fit. We will follow up on this later.
