In 2015-16 the San Jose Sharks celebrated their 25th anniversary season. It was also the best season in franchise history, including the team's first-ever trip to the Stanley Cup Final. To commemorate, we're taking a look back at the 25 most memorable, funny, and best moments of the 25th anniversary.
The season kicked off on October 7, 2015 in Los Angeles to face the Kings, the second straight year with that matchup. It featured the Sharks debuts of Martin Jones (returning to face his old team), Paul Martin, Joel Ward, Joonas Donskoi, and the coaching staff. It really couldn't have gone much better.
After allowing the first goal of the season, the Sharks rattled off 5 unanswered goals, including the first NHL goal from Joonas Donskoi. Thornton, Pavelski, Burns, and Hertl also scored. The victory marked the first Sharks win for both Peter DeBoer and Martin Jones.
Three days later on October 10, the Sharks hosted their home opener at SAP Center. Facing the other Southern California team, the Anaheim Ducks, the Sharks continued their hot start with a 2-0 victory. Both goals were scored by Patrick Marleau.
"I think a statement was made that the Sharks are back and we're for real this year," DeBoer said.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic played in his 672nd career game, a franchise record for defensemen in the victory. But, in a preview of things to come, the biggest story was Martin Jones getting his first shutout with the team, and the Sharks starting off the season red hot.
