Every season ten lucky students, nominated by their teachers for classroom successes, are selected from a drawing to be a part of the Reading Is Cool All-Star Reader Night. These All-Star Readers are treated to a party in a Penthouse Suite while watching the San Jose Sharks take on their opponent. The readers also get to high-five the players as they take the ice at the start of the game, be recognized for their achievement on-ice during intermission, enjoy a cameo on the videoboard, and receive a suite visit from mascot S.J. Sharkie who brings the readers a bag full of Sharks goodies and memories to last a lifetime.
What teachers have to say about their All-Star readers:
"She pushes herself to read above grade level chapter books in both English and Spanish. She is highly motivated and has a positive attitude about reading, learning and school in general. Her passion for reading is contagious in our classroom!"
"This young man has exceeded the Kinder reading level by a large margin. He and his family are committed to his education needs and those of the entire class. His whole family participates in activities for the class and always shows enthusiasm doing it! He is a bright young man and has shown so much improvement over the last year, that I believe he is an excellent example for this program."
"She is a rock star reader! ... a ready reader who is willing to take her reading exploration to the highest ground! I am so proud of her because she is a 3rd grade role model who inspires others to be very best they can be with reading!"
