The Rink of Dreams by the numbers ... and more

Some unique facts about the Rink of Dreams, which was officially opened Wednesday night at Marion Dewar Plaza in front of Ottawa City Hall:

— Three commemorative pins have been inserted into the concrete slab of the Rink of Dreams. Included are pins signifying the City of Ottawa, the Senators and the hockey team's 20th anniversary.

— The rink is 3/4 the size of an NHL ice surface.

— Refrigeration unit can maintain ice at temperatures up to 10 C.

— LED lights in the rink boards can display more than 128 colours.

— A sub-soil heat system is installed above the slab and will operate when required in the spring to ensure condensation does not drip from the roof of the City Hall parking garage into the P1 level.

— Some 16 km (53,000 ft) of piping has been built into the slab.

— The concrete slab underneath the rink is six inches thick.

— A total 16-30 inches of rigid lightweight insulation is installed under the site.
