Sport Chek Prospect Profile: Tage Thompson

by Craig Medaglia / Ottawa Senators

UConn Huskies' forward Tage Thompson has been pegged as a potential first/early second round pick at the 2016 NHL Draft and he's up next in our Sport Chek Prospect Profiles.

  • Position: Centre
  • Date of birth: October 30, 1997
  • Shoots: Right
  • Height: 6' 5"
  • Weight: 185 lbs
  • 2015-16 team: U Connecticut, H-EAST

Scouting Report

"He's a pro player. For him to go into that program and get the ice time and production he's getting, he's getting bigger and stronger and his skating has picked up. He upgraded his skating even though he didn't need to, so he's one of these guys who can get in, protect the puck, get it to the net and he's hard to check. As a freshman, to go there and get that ice time, and be given the responsibility that he has, that's what is impressive." - Dan Marr, Director of NHL Central Scouting

  • A business and sports management major at UConn.
  • Won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2015 U18 World Junior Championship
  • Finished 2nd in goals (14) and points (32) for UConn last season as a freshman.
  • Son of former NHLer Brent Thompson.

Persistence pays off for Tage Thompson

"He has that mentality when he's on the power play to get himself in position to shoot the puck. He doesn't do it that much in 5-on-5; he has an extra stick handle or tries to deke it." - UConn coach Mike Cavanaugh
