Scouting Report

"Smooth skating, puck-moving defenseman with excellent poise and composure. Displays elite hockey sense and instincts with and without the puck. Plays in every situation and possesses the skills and smarts to have a positive impact on the game in a number of different ways." - NHL Central Scouting

"Juolevi is a heck of a player and is having an impressive season. He burst onto the scene and didn't require the adjustment period that most players coming from Europe do. What makes him so good is that he possesses elite hockey sense. His poise with the puck is that of a much older player and he has the ability to see the ice the way most players can't." - Matt Ryan, NHL Central Scouting

"Juolevi came over to London a well-known first round prospect, but it took going back to Finland for the WJC to really spark top ten interest in his book smart game. He is hockey’s version of a point guard, able to slow the play down in his own end and strike in a flash in the attacking zone. Poised in every sense of the word, he knows when to put a body on the opponent or whether to disrupt the shot/pass. So fluid, so agile on his skates, he can alter his own position based on the options that present and is a great distributor as a result. His shot is high efficiency with a heavy release on a wrister that gets through." - Anthony Mauro, DraftBuzz Hockey

  • In 2015-16, Juolevi finished third among Ontario Hockey League rookie defensemen with 9-33—42 in 57 games for the London Knights, earning OHL Second All-Rookie Team and OHL Third All-Star Team honors.
  • In the playoffs, Juolevi registered 3-11—14 in 18 games to help the Knights capture the OHL championship. He added 0-7—7 in four games at the 2016 Memorial Cup – where he was named to the tournament All-Star Team – to help the undefeated Knights capture the title for the second time in franchise history.
  • Juolevi was a key member of Finland’s gold medal-winning team at the 2016 World Junior Championship where he led all defensemen with nine assists (0-9—9 in 7 GP) and was named to the tournament All-Star Team.
  • During 2014-15, Juolevi stocked his trophy case while playing with Jokerit’s junior squad (6-26—32 in 44 GP), where he was named the league’s Best Defenseman, Rookie of the Year and selected to the First All-Star Team.
  • Juolevi compares his style of play to Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Arizona Coyotes. His favorite NHL player is Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber.

Juolevi confident ahead of 2016 NHL Draft

"I'm the smartest of the defensemen and it's something that is hard to teach. It's like one of those natural things that you either have or you don't have. You can always go practice your shooting or skating or whatever, but that's a hard thing to improve anymore. When you're a small kid, you don't care if you're confident or not; you just go out and play and now it's almost like pros, so now you have to be confident. You have to know how good you are and be proud of that." - Olli Juolevi
