by Sens Communications @Media_Sens / Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA - Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators and Canadian Tire Centre, announced today that for the 13th consecutive season, the Senators, in partnership with Canadian Tire, will honour the men, women and families of the Canadian Armed Forces on Tuesday, Nov. 1, when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

More than 2,900 members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families will attend this year's event on behalf of Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night corporate supporters, season-seat members, Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. Mr. Melnyk and the Senators have hosted more than 28,000 members of the Armed Forces and their families since the program started in 2004. In acknowledgment of Mr. Melnyk's long-time support of the Canadian Military, on Jan. 14, 2015, he was named the honorary colonel of 414 Electronic Warfare Support Squadron during a ceremony in Ottawa.

"As an Honourary Colonel of the Royal Canadian Air Force, I am proud that one of the great traditions of our hockey club is this annual, special game to honour our military," said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. "It is truly a wonderful opportunity for our fans to express their collective gratitude and thanks to every Canadian soldier for the tireless work in keeping the world safe for our families and future generations."

"I would like to thank the Ottawa Senators for their gracious display of support and respect for the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces," said General Jonathan H. Vance, chief of the defence staff. This special tribute by the Ottawa Senators organization, and the season ticket holders who donated their seats, is in the finest tradition of the country we have the honour to serve."

The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and its Foundation, in partnership with corporate supporters of Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night, have been supporting the work of the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) since 2008. More than $800,000 has been invested in:

- The establishment of an endowment fund that has awarded 165 Canadian Armed Forces members and their families a bursary to attend one of the three Algonquin College campuses in Ontario;

- Generating important awareness for more than 2,400 veterans sleeping on Canadian streets on any given night while investing funds to support the issue of their homelessness.

PRE-GAME ACTIVITIES: Senators players will be wearing special camouflage jerseys during warm-up that will be signed and later made available via auction.

To open the pre-game ceremonies honouring our Canadian Armed Forces, three active Canadian Armed Forces members will participate in a special ceremony and puck drop. General Jonathan Vance, chief of the defence staff, will also be present.

The Canadian national anthem will be performed by Sergeant David Grenon from the Royal Canadian Air Force Band, alongside the Canadian Forces Support Unit Ottawa Flag Party.

CORPORATE PARTNERS: Corporate partners for Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night include Canadian Tire, Decisive, Thales Canada, Calian, Lockheed Martin, Algonquin College, Boeing, Commissionaires Ottawa, Cisco, Curtiss Wright, IBM, Lepine, Logistik Unicorp, MD Charlton Company and Scotiabank.
