Sens TV's Top 5 Plays of the Year

by Craig Medaglia / Ottawa Senators

The past 12 months yielded an array of amazing plays for the Sens. From overtime winners to insane dangles, 2014 saw no shortage of unbelievable highlight reel moments that just had to be seen again to confirm they actually happened.

But which ones did you watch the most?

We fired up the master computer that powers and ran the numbers (twice) and here are the Top 5 most watched plays on Sens TV from 2014...

1. Ales Hemsky's Ridiculous Dangle - March 20th, 2014

Hemsky may have only played in 20 games for the Ottawa Senators but that was apparently enough time for him to score arguably the Goal of the Year in 2013-14. He pulled off something straight out of NHL 15 but in real life. This goal had it all: between the legs, toe-drag, cut across and bury. Easily the most watched play from 2014 on Sens TV.

2. Bobby Ryan Gets Crazy - December 11th, 2014

I absolutely love the title of this video. It's perfect because you'd have to be crazy to try and pull this move off against a former Conn Smyth Trophy winner, an Olympic Gold Medalist and the defending Stanley Cup Champions. But Bobby Ryan's crazy...crazy good. He did the hockey equivalent of a "crossover" while splitting the defense and just when you thought he'd take the puck wide to his forehand, he brings it to his backhand and absolutely baffles Jonathan Quick.

3. Zibanejad strikes after a sweet Sens setup - March 18, 2014

While Mika Zibanejad definitely makes this highlight reel goal happen by roofing it over Vezina Trophy winner Henrik Lundqvist, the puck movement on this powerplay is ridiculous. It ends with a give-and-go between Mika and Spezza but Clarke MacArthur and Erik Karlsson each chip in with stellar passes of their own. The NHL should consider giving out 4th and 5th assists for plays like this.

4. Karlsson tallies OT winner past Lack - December 7th, 2014

This goal was definitely a beauty but the circumstances around it are what really makes it stand out. After trailing 3-0 to the Vancouver Canucks early in the second period the Sens rallied back with three straight goals of their own and carried that momentum into overtime. Some nifty playmaking from Mika Zibanejad, who recorded points on all 4 of the Sens goals that night (2+2), and Bobby Ryan left Erik Karlsson alone in the slot with the puck on his stick. Of course he scored and of course you watched it again and again...

5. Zibanejad hammers a blast top-shelf for PPG - October 4th, 2014

Remember when Mika Zibanejad hammered a 106 MPH shot at Sens Skills last year? Well it's too bad they didn't have a radar gun on this goal because this shot was trucking. If you watch this play from the 0:14 mark you can see Zibanejad basically starts moving into this slapshot from the far blueline. It's basically the exact same circumstances as the hardest shot competition so the result is really no surprise. Under the bar was a nice touch though.

So besides the plays you watched over and over, any others stick out? Feel free to add your honourable mentions below.
