Sens re-sign Hoffman

by Chris Lund / Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Mike Hoffman to a one-year, two-way deal, the team announced today. Hoffman, who has appeared in four career NHL games, was the victim of some bad luck over the course of the 2012-13 season that hampered his ability to settle in as an NHLer.

With openings cropping up in the Sens lineup in late January and early February, he was relegated to the press box with a collarbone injury. Upon breaking into the lineup, he managed to appear in three games for the Sens prior to re-aggravating the injury and being ruled out for the season. He did practice with the team during the playoffs but never wound up seeing game action.

Hoffman is an offensively gifted forward who has begun to transform into more of a two-way presence over the last couple of years. He is a very quick skater who has been a big asset for the Binghamton Senators in his time in the AHL. With a current opening at the NHL level for a forward after this offseason’s departures, he will be one of the favourites to make the jump to the next level or, at the very least, leave management with a very tough decision regarding the open roster spot.
