Team Canada's World Junior squad played its first summer tune up game in Montreal on Tuesday night, defeating the Czech Republic by a 6-2 margin. The Sens had two prospects suit up for Canada in the win as both Curtis Lazar and Nick Paul dressed.
Lazar scored the game winning goal for the Canadians with a power play marker prior to the conclusion of the second period. He also picked up a pair of minor penalties.
It was also announced before the game that Lazar would wear 26 internationally for Canada in honour of former Edmonton Oil Kings teammate Kristians Pelss who passed away last summer after drowning in Riga, Latvia.
It's not the first tribute to the memory of Pelss we've seen from Lazar, as he brought his teammate's jersey on to the ice for Edmonton's Memorial Cup victory celebrations earlier this summer.
Paul also scored a goal for Canada to make the score 4-1 with some nifty hands through the slot. While the Czech defence left something to be desired, the goal will surely be a confidence boost for Paul who is taking part in his first Canadian development camp. Harpur did not dress for Canada on Tuesday but will likely figure into the lineup on Wednesday night.
