With the advent of any playoff scenario means there is plenty of opportunity for punditry and predictive wizardry.
The sleeper pick is a classic of any prediction. The team you think could go on a run but won't take any flak for if they don't. That beloved little engine that could, which should be warranting more attention but perhaps drew an unfavourable matchup and are now being written off.
Well, your Senators are getting a little sleeper love.
As part of their array of coverage ahead of this year's playoffs, the Senators were picked by Dan Rosen of NHL.com as his official Eastern Conference sleeper. The returns of Erik Karlsson, Jared Cowen, Milan Michalek and Craig Anderson have certainly made this a more formidable team in terms of flat-out talent, and considering how battle tested they've become over the course of these four months, you have to wonder if anything could catch them off guard.
This is a squad that took last year's Rangers team to seven games, is composed of players who have won a championship together in the AHL, have veteran leadership that have played for the Stanley Cup and has a top notch coaching staff. The sum of these parts is a team most opponents should want to avoid.
As far as sleeper picks go, you could do much, much worse.
