Ottawa Senators fans won't have to wait much longer to start making plans for a new season.
At a press conference in Chicago earlier today, National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed the full 2010-11 regular schedule will be released on June 22. It'll be the opening act in a week-long series of big events for the league, including the NHL awards celebration in Las Vegas on June 23 and the annual entry draft, set for June 25-26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
One Senators date was released today. CBC's annual Hockey Day in Canada
is set for Feb. 12, with Ottawa travelling to Edmonton to take on the Oilers in a matinee matchup (2 p.m. ET). It's the opener of a tripleheader that also includes Toronto-Montreal (7 p.m.) and Calgary-Vancouver (10 p.m.).
Also confirmed was the annual Kraft Hockeyville pre-season game, which will match the Senators against the Buffalo Sabres on Sept. 28 at the newly renovated J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ont.
The 2010-11 NHL season is slated to begin Oct. 7, with CBC airing an all-Canadian doubleheader that night: Canadiens-Leafs in Toronto at 7 p.m., followed by Flames-Oilers in Edmonton at 10 p.m. South of the border, Versus features both Stanley Cup finalists in a twinbill of its own -- Flyers-Penguins on opening night at the new Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, followed by Blackhawks-Avalanche in Denver.
