OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Pierre Dorion announced today that the club has signed forward Nate Thompson to a two-year contract. The average annual value of the contract is $1.65 million ($1.65M in 2017-18 and $1.65M in 2018-19).
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Thompson has spent the last three seasons playing with the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks, a span over which he recorded 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) and 100 penalty minutes in 159 games. Last season, he skated in each of the Ducks' 17 post-season contests, recording six points (two goals, two assists) and six penalty minutes in helping Anaheim reach the Western Conference Final.
Originally drafted in the sixth round, 183rd overall, by the Boston Bruins in the 2003 NHL Draft, Thompson, 32, has played 550 NHL games with the Bruins, Ducks, New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning, recording 111 points (48 goals, 63 assists) and 299 penalty minutes. He has also registered 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) and 18 penalty minutes over 58 NHL post-season contests.
