The Ottawa Senators will focus on their individual skills on Sunday during the 2007 Sens Skills presented by Bell at Scotiabank Place starting at 1 p.m. Fans attending the fun-filled family-oriented event will witness the Sens compete head-to-head in six skills challenges, including the Juniper Networks PowerPlay Challenge and the Esso On the Run Fastest Skater.
Senators centre Jason Spezza expects Antoine Vermette to do well at the event.
"Vermie, Vermie, Vermie," Spezza says when asked who will shine at the Sens Skills presented by Bell. "Vermie pretty much dominates these things. It'll probably be Antoine Vermette Day."
Last year Christoph Schubert was the leader in the hardest shot competition before Zdeno Chara, who is now the captain of the Boston Bruins, took his turn and fired a 103.5 m.p.h. slapshot. Schubert is looking forward to showcasing his skills against his teammates.
"This is fun for us. It's going to be good competition for sure."
All proceeds will be donated to Easter Seals and Roger's House through the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the National Hockey League Players' Association Goals and Dreams fund.
