Call it the next best thing to being there.
When Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray makes the ninth pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft on June 26, fans can celebrate the occasion at two draft parties. One is set for Local Heroes at 1525 Bank Street in Ottawa, while the other will be held at the Boston Pizza location in Gatineau (61 Boul. de la Gappe).
The two parties, presented by Molson, the Team 1200, the Ottawa Citizen, CJRC radio and Le Droit, are both set to run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Each will feature prizes, interactive games, and visits by the Senators Power Patrol and the Molson extreme team.
A Spartacat appearance is also part of the fun at Local Heroes. As the official sports bar of the Senators, it’s a natural fit for this event.
“We at Local Heroes Restaurants are very pleased and honoured to be hosting this very special first Senators draft party,” said Tasso Vasilas, owner/partner of Local Heroes. “Any time you can host an event that is put on by a world-class organization like the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, you are excited that you can be associated with it.
"We can't wait to have Sens fans in the building and enjoying the draft and all the interactive games and the food that we will have to offer on June 26. It will be a day to remember.”
Both radio sponsors are planning live broadcasts from the respective venues. At Local Heroes, Senators broadcaster Gord Wilson will play host between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., while Nicolas St-Pierre is the host for CJRC’s broadcast from Boston Pizza, which runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Television coverage of the draft from Montreal’s Bell Centre begins at 7 p.m. on TSN and RDS. Before then, fans attending the draft parties can take part in ‘Hot Stove’ panel discussions at 5:45 p.m. featuring a Senators player. Fans can meet forward Chris Kelly at Local Heroes and defenceman Alexandre Picard at Boston Pizza.
Senators fans can win dinner in a VIP area with Kelly or Picard by entering a contest in the days leading up the draft (full details can be found here
