OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators open the home portion of the 2019-20 schedule when the team welcomes the New York Rangers to Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. As part of its annual home-opening festivities, the Senators will host a number of fun initiatives in an effort to kick-off what is expected to be an exciting season of NHL hockey in Ottawa.
The Red Zone, which is located at the Gate 1 entrance of Canadian Tire Centre, will be open to fans starting at 3 p.m. Featuring live entertainment including a live DJ on a DJ stage, interactive games, giveaways for young fans, inflatables, a beer garden and patio, the venue will also welcome Ottawa's Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine to the Rideau Carleton Casino Stage where the pair will perform a variety of their hit songs in the lead up to and at the first intermission of Saturday night's game. The performance is also scheduled to include the premiere of the Senators new theme song which was inspired by the season's tag line, "The Kids are Alright".
Beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Senators players (who will be joined by local minor hockey players), coaches, members of the team's hockey management and executive staff, Rookie the Sens CNIB Pup, alumni and team broadcast personalities will continue the tradition of being welcomed to Canadian Tire Centre on the Red Carpet. Each player, who will be greeted with a pre-selected walk-up song for the first time, coaches and executives will arrive at the front of the arena in vehicles provided by the Ford Dealers of Ottawa. They will then proceed along the Red Carpet to interact and pose for photos with fans ahead of entering the venue.
Pre-game giveaway and player honouring committee announcement
Each fan in attendance at Saturday's home opener will be provided with Senators' branded thunder sticks upon entry, courtesy of Canadian Tire. While doors to Canadian Tire Centre will open at 6 p.m., fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7 p.m. for the on-ice introduction of the team's entire season-opening roster and for a very special alumni announcement which will include a ceremonial pre-game face-off.
