Sens announce details regarding Chris Phillips' jersey retirement night

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) today announced details pertaining to next Tuesday's pre-game ceremony that will see former defenceman Chris Phillips' No. 4 retired at Canadian Tire Centre. The retirement ceremony will take place prior to the team's home game against the Buffalo Sabres.


Ceremony timing details


Fans are asked to be in their seats before 6:30 p.m. to enjoy the retirement ceremony's entire program. Doors to Canadian Tire Centre will open to guests at 5:30 p.m.


The ceremony is scheduled to have a duration of approximately 30 minutes. The program will contain speeches, special guests and a video tribute to Phillips. The ceremony, which is scheduled to take place prior to player warm-up, will ultimately see the game's opening face-off take place at 7:52 p.m.


Fan Giveaway


The first 10,000 fans in attendance on Feb. 18 will receive a mini replica of the Phillips banner that will be raised to the rafters. The items will be distributed by the Senators Goodwill Ambassadors as fans arrive at each of Canadian Tire Centre's gates.




The Sens Store will have inventory available to fans who wish to purchase keepsakes of both the retirement ceremony and of Phillips' NHL career. Merchandise items will include special limited edition commemorative banners, hats, toques, t-shirts, glassware, autographed canvases, jerseys and more. Merchandise is available online at




Tuesday's ceremony and game will include five voices. Senators TSN 1200 play-by-play announcer Dean Brown will be joined by colour commentor Gord Wilson and counterpart Nicolas St-Pierre from Unique 94,5 FM to serve as the night's emcees, while TSN 1200 personality Ian Mendes will act as the in-game sideline reporter to interview various guests throughout the evening. Jonathan Trottier will serve as the game's public address announcer.


Ceremony broadcast information


The Phillips' ceremony will be broadcast live on TSN5, TSN1200 and on Unique 94,5 FM. RDS INFO will populate regular programming with live updates.

Ottawa Senators Foundation 50/50 draw


As part of Tuesday's special evening, and in addition to the team's regular 50/50 draw, the Ottawa Senators Foundation will provide a secondary prize consisiting of an autographed Chris Phillips banner, an autographed Phillips jersey and a photo opportunity with Phillips beside his banner at centre ice following the game. By way of the Foundation, partial proceeds from select merchandise will be donated to Project Step.
