Scotiabank Place upgrades satisfy fans' hunger

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators
A whole new game experience awaits Ottawa Senators fans when they make the trek out to Scotiabank Place.

Club officials unveiled a number of renovated restaurants Monday in the Senators’ home building. And they’re convinced it’ll give puck-hungry fans good reason to dine on more than hockey this season.

“The game is the key thing. It will always be that way,” said Gord McTavish of McTavish Design, who oversaw the major improvements to dining facilities at Scotiabank Place. “But it’s not just about the game anymore. The game has evolved and so has the fan. Their expectations have grown.”

Senators and Scotiabank Place COO Cyril Leeder said a survey of more than 6,000 fans undertaken by the club confirmed the quality of the food and beverage service “is the No. 2 thing that enhances the fan experience.”

“The food experience is really important to fans here,” he said.

Since the end of last season, the former Penalty Box restaurant on the 400 level has been transformed into The Ledge Carvery & Bar, which will serve up a variety of roast beef, turkey, ham and Montreal smoked-meat sandwiches and tasty salads. At $75 for a game ticket and meal, McTavish called it “the best-kept secret” in the building.

Also new for the coming season is the Local Heroes Hockey Country Lodge, which replaces the former Silver Seven Brew House on the 200 level. It’ll offer popular fare well-known to patrons of Local Heroes restaurants, with a décor featuring 14 plasma screens and a wealth of photos of hockey stars with a long connection to the Ottawa area.

“They’re our local heroes,” said Leeder.

The new restaurants join Club Red, the Senate Club, Marshy’s Bar-B-Q & Grill and Frank Finnigan’s Roadhouse as dining options in the building.

In addition, Lone Star Texas Grill locations have joined the lineup of concessions available on both the 100 and 200 levels.

Another 400 feet of LED ribbon boards have been added as well, giving Scotiabank Place 1,300 feet of fully animated boards on two levels. Among the items they’ll feature will be a super stats package that will bring fans the most up-to-date information from around the NHL.
