Sens Assistant GM Randy Lee breaks down last night's Development Camp scrimmage and talks which prospects made the biggest impressions.
On which Team Black forwards he felt stood out:
I thought the Lindberg line with Nick Paul was outstanding. Dzingel was really able to show off his speed with a couple of breakaways too. He had a good year in Binghamton last season but it was a transition year where we put him at a different position so that was a bit of a challenge for him. I thought he got better as the season went on and it was great to see how well he did last night.
On Team White's forwards:
When you see the compete of Max McCormick last night, he's a guy that's gotten better every year at Development Camp. He's one of those guys that when you look at him, he doesn't look like the biggest guy but he's one of the most competitive guys. The coaches in Binghamton tell us that he competes like Mark Borowiecki which is a real good compliment to any player. I thought he showed that compete level in last night's scrimmage especially around the net.
On which defencemen from Team Black he felt had a good showing:
We were really excited to see Andreas Englund. He's still young but he's a great, big body with a huge frame so he's got a lot of room to add extra mass as he develops. Great stick last night as well. His partner last night Mikael Wikstrand is a guy that you don't appreciate until you see him in a game. He really thinks the game at a high-level, he moves the puck really well, good offensive instincts and he's a guy that's going to be a pretty good player for us. That pairing really stood out last night.
On which Team White defenders impressed:
I thought Chabot was really good last night. One thing I like about Chabot is that he realizes where he's at strength-wise, he knows he has good instincts but he knows that he has to invest in his body. If he can do that and improve his "battle strength" he's going to be a real special player. He carried the puck as well as any player last night.
His thoughts on the goalies last night:
I talked with Rick Wamlsey and he was really satisfied with all of them last night. Watching Hogberg, you can see he's got great feet, really good down low. Joey Daccord was very strong last night as well. He was an eye opener for us because a lot of us hadn't seen him until last night. He's a 7th round pick but he's really impressed Rick Wamsley this week. Chris Driedger he had a different season last year but as the season went on, he got better and he played with a lot of confidence last night. And Matt O'Connor was as good as advertised. He's a consummate pro. He's probably the best sponge we have at this camp in terms of absorbing information and wanting to improve himself.
