The Ottawa Senators announced the signing of 2015 first-round pick Thomas Chabot to an entry level contract this morning and we've put together the best quotes and reactions from after today's off-ice workout.
Thomas Chabot on earning his first NHL contract:
I knew I had a pretty good camp and it was just something that proved to me that they really liked what they saw on the ice.
Chabot on returning to Saint John:
I'm going back with a lot of confidence. I'm really excited to get back because I know we'll have a good season and a good team. I learned a lot here and I'm going to bring that to Saint John and have another good season.
Chabot on meeting with management today:
They told me what I did well but we talked a lot about what I need to do to get better for next year's camp. I want to get stronger and bigger and I'm going to work a lot on that this season.
Chabot on learning from Erik Karlsson:
He helped me a lot and gave me some tricks in the games. I really enjoyed this experience and I had a lot of chances to play with some great players.
Sens GM Bryan Murray on signing Chabot:
We're obviously very happy with him. I think he showed poise, skating ability and that he can play with high-end players. He played with Karlsson and looked real good in those games. He's one of those kids that you could probably keep around for 9 or 10 games if you really wanted to but I think it serves his purpose better to go back and play an important role with his junior team. Hopefully he'll be identified as one of those kids that has a chance to play for Team Canada at the World Juniors.
Murray on the impression Chabot left off the ice:
He appears to be a real good person. A real good character kid. He was very respectful of the veterans and management. Anything that I saw of him, he looked like a guy that's poised to be a real good pro.
Kyle Turris on his impressions of Chabot:
You can tell he really thinks the game very well. He sees plays develop, he knows where to be, he's a smart player. For his first camp and being a young kid I thought he did real well. I think he learned a lot and he's got lots to improve on but I think it was a great first step and he's going to have a long career.
Sens Assistant Coach Jason Smith on working with Chabot during training camp:
I think he's obviously a really young, skilled guy who skates well. He'a got great poise for an 18 year old kid and I think the ceiling is well up there. He sees the game well and he reads the game well. I think getting experience this year playing in junior, doing things away from the rink and really develops into a man then I think he's got the skill-set and ability to become a good player in this league.
