Defenceman Patrick Wiercioch shares a few quick thoughts after today's skate in Columbus as the Sens get set to face the Blue Jackets tonight.
His thoughts on the home opener against Montreal:
I think we have to work a little harder to generate the bounces coming our way but there's no excuse for coming out flat in your own rink especially with the home opener. We had a good start to the year on the road so there's just no excuse to start the game off the way we did. Dug ourselves in a hole and couldn't get out of it.
On rebounding during the back-to-back road games:
We're back on the road so there is a little less distraction. We're playing two really good teams. Columbus is much improved and I think if they didn't have the injuries that they had last year they could have been a lot more successful. And Pittsburgh is one of the top teams in the East and they definitely have the fire power to capitalize on a back-to-back night. We'll start with Columbus and hopefully play them tough and be prepared for a full 60.
On producing at even strength due to his power play time being reduced early in the season:
With the man advantage you're put in a roll where it's expected and you have that pressure on you. 5-on-5 our role as a team is to defend well first and then hopefully if you defend quickly out of your zone you have a chance to get in the offensive zone and make something happen. Our power play is going to click the way it's going to click and 5-on-5 we're trying to build a defence first mentality.
