We caught up with Sens defenseman Marc Methot to get some quick pre-game thoughts ahead of tonight's match-up against the Chicago Blackhawks.
On how they can defend against the reigning Stanley Cup Champs:
I think we need to hold on to pucks longer, we made that pretty clear this morning when we're in the offensive zone. We don't want to get into a track meet with them where we're turning the puck over at their blue line. We know that their defence are very active in their rushes so as far as defending that we need to make sure that we're not running around too much in our own end because they're not that positionally sound so to speak when they are in the offensive zone. They're that confident with the puck so there are some adjustments we need to make but when it comes down to it it's just sticking to your game plan, your structure and everyone's got to be on tonight. If you have too many passengers, you're not going to win the game.
On facing Patrick Kane in the midst of a 20-game point streak:
I think with their line-up, if you key in on Kane too much they've got too many other players that can expose you. You've got to play them all hard especially their top guys. When I say that, it doesn't necessarily mean running at them or anything like that. I think just being very disciplined when it comes to stick checks, having a good stick in lanes and not letting them make those fancy long passes. Slowing them down by finishing everything along the wall and that takes away their speed. As far as Kane's streak goes, I mean, what do you do? You just try and play him as hard as you can and hopefully we get away with the win more than anything.
On being the team that potentially ends Kane's point streak:
I think all the teams that have been playing him over the past 10 games have been trying to do that. But again, I can't stress it enough how important it is not to put too much emphasis on that in particular. Yes, it would be great but again getting that win is more important. If we can prevent that guy from getting a point here or there that will be key as well.
On rolling 7 defenseman tonight:
You know what? I don't mind it. I think it's fine. It gives you that much more energy if you're playing a little less. You should have some more legs and more jump in your game. A lot of players could argue with that, some guys like to play a lot more. I'm indifferent and kind of neutral with that. Depending on how the game goes I think the coaches are going to juggle the lines up and it's a good opportunity for Patty to get back in too.
On wearing the heritage jerseys tonight for #ThrowbackThursday:
I enjoy wearing them. I think they are pretty sharp looking and for whatever reason, as far as I know, we tend to play pretty well with them on. I don't know what our record is but at least I feel good when we're wearing them. If the record is good, that's good and I think they're sharp.
