We caught up with Sens defenceman Jared Cowen for a few quick thoughts after today's morning skate and ahead of facing the New Jersey Devils tonight.
On changing aspects of the team's play depending on the opponent:
Yes and no. I think the games where we haven't been good we've been worrying too much about the other team and the games where we have been good it's been about how we play. I think they've (New Jersey) been better than their record shows. I've seen a couple of bits and pieces from their games and they deserved to get wins in a couple but they're always good and play a sound system so we just play our way and we don't need to worry about what they're going to do.
On facing a team that relies on depth as opposed to star power:
They've got a pertty solid line-up throughout every line. That's just the way they've been for as long as I can remember. They've always been consistent up and down their line-up and they don't have one line you need to worry about. Their defence has always been pretty solid and they've had good goaltending so they're always going to do a few things really well, maybe not the best at everything but everything is pretty good which isn't how most teams are.
On facing a traditionally low-scoring team:
Usually when we go there it's kind of a "snorefest". Every team tries to play that way: limit shots, limit scoring chances...that just seems to be their game and what they get energy off of so if you can score goals on them they fall apart a bit.
On wearing the Heritage jerseys for Throwback Thursday tonight:
I think if we're winning in them, everyone loves them. Personally, I like the way they look and I like wearing them. The first year we started wearing them we didn't win that many games so some guys started to hate them (laughs) but I've always liked them.
On his defence partner Chris Wideman's first NHL game against Nashville:
It was good. It didn't look like it was his first game but if you asked him he'd probably say he was pretty nervous. he said he couldn't sleep during the day but I thought he was good. He was pretty calm out there in a couple of tight situations where he could have done something else but he made the right play. I felt good playing with him. We played a couple of times in preseason together so it was fun.
