We caught up with Sens defenseman Cody Ceci to get some quick pre-game thoughts ahead of tonight's match-up against the Carolina Hurricanes.
On the team acquiring Dion Phaneuf:
I was pretty excited when I heard about the trade and I figured I'd be playing with him. So far we've been playing pretty well together. He's always back there and I can always count on him. He's a great player with the puck as well.
On how Phaneuf helps compliment his game:
He's a great shutdown guy but at the same time he can play offensively. He's a good skater and a good puck-moving defenseman so I think it compliments my game well. When I'm trying to get up in the rush I can count on him to be back there.
The increase in the amount of shots he's blocked this season:
It's more just the situations I'm in. I've always been a part of the penalty kill and obviously you get hit with a lot of pucks on the penalty kill. My numbers were up there last year as well. I try and block a few every game, get in the lane and try to help the goalies out.
On how the experience of last year's drive to the playoffs can help the team this year:
We can't really count on ourselves to put together the same run but we need to put together a little bit of run. We're definitely not counting ourselves out yet. We need to string a few wins together and see what happens from there.
His thoughts on wearing the heritage jerseys tonight for Throwback Thursday:
I think they're awesome. I think they're one of the better looking jerseys in the league so it's always a good time when we get to wear those.
