We caught up with defenceman Cody Ceci after today's skate as the Sens get set to open their season tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.
On being excited to get the regular season underway:
Really excited. I'm happy with how the preseason went and I just have to keep that rolling.
On the experience he gained last year playing a full NHL season:
It definitely helps with feeling more comfortable and confident. If I can carry that confidence over and hopefully play a lot of games this year I'll be happy with it. It's a tough thing to stay in the lineup so I've got to take care of my body and try to bring my best every night.
On being paired with Patrick Wiercioch all preseason:
It's been good. He gained some confidence at the end of last year and started to play a lot more often and given a lot more chances and then ended up playing at the Worlds at the end of the year. He showed that he's a skilled player and I really enjoy playing with him. Hopefully we can lock down that second pair and be a little more consistent in playing together and not so "scrambly" all the time.
On building off of the success the team had late last season:
We can definitely use it to our advantage but we can't expect it to b the same so we have to come out every night and try and win every game but it's not going to happen like that so we can't get too down on ourselves. We can't rely on having a 30-game win streak at the end of the year to bring us to the playoffs. We need to start it now and have a more consistent year.
On starting the season across from a few former teammates in Buffalo:
You don't really have time to sit down and talk until after the game or sometimes the night before if guys go out for dinner. It's always nice to see old teammates and fun to play against them.
