Sens prospect Nick Paul found himself centering a line with NHL regulars Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek while 2015 first-round pick Thomas Chabot spent time paired with team captain Erik Karlsson during today's training camp scrimmage.
Nick Paul on playing on a line with Ryan and Michalek during today's scrimmage:
It felt really good. They're great players and playing with them is so much better. They're always in the right position and when they give you a pass it's on the tape. It's way easier on the mind just knowing they'll do the right things and they'll be in the right spots. It's a lot easier to play with them.
Nick Paul on seeing this as an opportunity to show he can play with NHL players:
Obviously this summer I wanted to show them that I could take the next step and be on that line. I'm trying to show them that I don't look out of place and that I can actually produce with that line. That was definitely a big step for me. There's still a lot more to go but hopefully I showed good today.
Thomas Chabot on being paired with Karlsson:
It's almost unreal to play with such a good player like that. I used to watch him on TV and to have a chance to play with him is something that I'll remember forever probably. He talked with me on the ice and I can see what makes him such a good player. It's nice to play with him just to see the difference between me and him. He gave me some tricks to help get better like just playing a simple game.
Head coach Dave Cameron on giving the young players an opportunity now:
It's training camp. You're going to mix and match. You're not worried about the result, you're just worried about getting a little bit better everyday. With the young guys, you try and put them into spots just to see what they can do. The evaluation of the young guys is over now. It's about development.
