After leaving the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning late in the second period before ultimately returning, Jean-Gabriel Pageau talks about the hit and subsequent knee injury he suffered.
On being able to return to the game after the knee injury:
Yeah. I felt all right. When I got hit, I felt uncomfortable and that's why I skated off. After that, we figured out it was just a bruise so I could get back. It got a little tight so for the next few days I think it's ice and stretching and I should be fine to play.
His thoughts on the hit:
I hope it was an accident. Nobody wants to hurt anyone. I tried to make a move and he was coming to finish his check. I was in an awkward position so maybe he could have not hit me to avoid that. I guess it ended up being a little bit dangerous for sure.
If he felt the injury later in the third period and overtime:
Yeah for sure. It was tight for the rest of the game. When I was coming back to the bench I was just trying to stretch it to make sure it was still warm. I felt it for sure all game that's why now I need to do a little treatment to be ready to go 100%.
On the injury giving him a little extra motivation when he returned:
I just want to help the team to win so I didn't want to let this stop me from playing my game. I just tried to keep going the same way and trying to help the team. I think we did a great job.
Pageau and the Sens return to action this Saturday night at home when they host the Washington Capitals. The team currently sits just 3 points out of the final wildcard playoff spot in the Eastern conference behind both the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings
