OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has acquired forward Jack Kopacka from the San Jose Sharks, in addition to the Sharks' seventh-round draft pick in 2022, in exchange for defenceman Christian Jaros.
A native of Lapeer, Mich., Kopacka registered 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) and two penalty minutes over 37 games in his second season with the Anaheim Ducks' American Hockey League affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, in 2019-20. He also tallied eight points (four goals, four assists) and two penalty minutes over five games with the Ducks' ECHL affiliate, the Tulsa Oilers, last season.
Kopacka, 22, spent his entire major junior career with the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and recorded 156 points (81 goals, 85 assists) over 202 games. He was selected by the Ducks with the team's second fourth-round draft pick (93rd overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft. Over 69 career AHL games (all of which occurred with San Diego), he has posted 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) and six penalty minutes. He has also registered three points (one goal, two assists) over nine Calder Cup Playoff games with the Gulls. He was acquired by the Sharks from Anaheim earlier today and will be assigned to the Belleville Senators.
