As the 2018-19 season is about to get underway, the Ottawa Senators are proud to share our vision for the future of our team and this organization. We are about to launch an exciting plan to rebuild our team and we are inviting you to be a part of our rise to new heights. This week I had a chance to sit down with Mark Borowiecki, one of our foundational players, to talk about the future of the team. Check out some of the highlights from our conversation as well as a letter to Sens fans.
We're ready to rebuild the organization so that it represents the best of us. To do this, we're announcing a multi-year plan, founded on a deep commitment to accountability, and four key pillars: hockey excellence, a fan-first experience, business growth, and community engagement.
A Letter to Fans and Supporters from Eugene Melnyk
I recently celebrated 15 years in the NHL, in Ottawa, and with the Senators. Now, at the dawn of
my 16th year with our NHL franchise, it is time to give you - our partners, fans, community, city
and region - an update on our plans for the future.
Our Senators are in Ottawa to stay. Since my last open letter in March, our focus has been to fi nd
better ways to deliver a one-of-a-kind hockey experience in Ottawa. To make our future one of
consistent excellence and excitement.
During that time, we've engaged in a cycle of town halls, market research and planning sessions
designed to gather your feedback and develop an action plan for strengthening our connection to
our fans and our community.
We're ready to rebuild the organization so that it represents the best of us. To do this, we're
announcing a multi-year plan, founded on a deep commitment to accountability, and four key
pillars: hockey excellence, afan-fi rst experience, business growth and community engagement.
We're proud of our record. Over the last 15 years, we've delivered 13 winning seasons, nine playoff
runs, a Stanley Cup Final and - only two years ago - a double-overtime game seven that left us
just one goal short of a second Cup Final.
Last season, however, we were horrible, and it just wasn't acceptable. We must get back to winning,
winning a lotmore, and with more consistency.
We must be willing to rise after we fall. More than ever, we must strive to again capture the hearts
of our fans, our citizens and our nation. We know that this rebuild makes us the underdog.
And we love it.
We must build a team that rejoins the elite and competes for the Cup every season; embrace our
rapidly evolving city; create the right circumstances to build a world-class arena, at the heart of our
world-class community; and keep Ottawa rising to new heights.
We will do everything in our power to make this a reality: invest in the future, make bold decisions
and compete - every single day. We will do better. I assure you. We are here to stay, and we want
you with us, side-by-side, every step of the way.
