Zack Smith has a pretty good beard going but in a leaue that applauds the ridiculous it's being a bit underappreciated. Not anymore though as we sat down and chatted with the Sens winger about his burly look this season.

Here are a few snippets from our conversation...
On when his beard was at it's biggest:
I think that last summer some would describe it as "out of control". I had to shave it for a couple of weddings last year. Luckily it's not wedding season right now.
On being the next NHL player with a big, ridiculous beard:
I don't think I have the capability. I'd just have to be very patient I guess. We can revisit this next year.
His long-term beard goals:
There's no end goal for me in terms of length...just going with the flow right now. I don't know what it will look like if it gets much longer. It might look absolutely terrible so we'll see how it is. I don't know that I have the capability to have a big, lush Nick Offerman-style beard.
The origin of his beard:
The first time I grew it was a couple of years ago for playoffs and I actually didn't mind it once it got past a certain uncomfortable stage.
Dealing with questions from teammates about it:
The guy who asks me the most about my beard and wishes he had a beard is Chris Wideman but he's just too patchy.
