Erik Karlsson's last NHL All-Star appearance was back in 2012 when he lead the league in fan voting with just under 1,000,000 votes. Since participating in All-Star Weekend in Ottawa 4 years ago, Karlsson has gone on to win two Norris Trophies and has been the highest scoring defenseman in the NHL for 3 of the past 4 seasons. So as if you really need them, here are a few more reasons why King Karl deserves your All-Star vote...
1. His vision
Nobody sees the game like Erik Karlsson does from the back end. Nobody. His ability to create space, find his teammates in prime scoring positions and then thread the puck to them is unmatched in the NHL.
There's a reason he's been the league's highest scoring defenseman since 2010, amassing 311 points in 368 games. That's 65 more points over that span than the second highest scoring defenseman, P.K. Subban, in 27 fewer games.
2. Did we mention...
Oh...we did already? Well some things are worth repeating*.
3. 3-on-3 overtime
Erik Karlsson is built for the new format for this year's All-Star game. While he may not always be partial to 3-on-3 overtime, Karlsson is a wizard with the extra ice.
In the Sens three overtime wins this season, Karlsson has been on the ice for the deciding goal in all of them and has factored in on the last 2 (above against Chicago and below against the Islanders).
4. More than just scoring
EK65 can absolutely torch you on the scoresheet but if you aren't careful, he'll run you over too. His physical play continues to evolve and his ability to lay someone out has become just another thing that teams need to be aware of when he's on the ice.
Now who wouldn't like to see some of that at the All-Star Game?
So do your part and help send Erik Karlsson to this year's NHL All-Star Game in Nashville. And while you're there, cast some votes for your other favourite Sens.
