OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed forward Scott Gomez to a one-year contract. The contract will carry a value of $575,000 and will run through the end of the 2015-16 season.
Gomez, 36, began the season with the St. Louis Blues, scoring one goal and adding seven assists in 21 games. Following his release from St. Louis, he signed a professional tryout in January with the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears, where he scored four goals and added 20 assists for 24 points in 18 games. Gomez exercised his release from his PTO on Tuesday.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward is a 15-year National Hockey League (NHL) veteran who has played for the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers and St. Louis.
In 1,066 career regular season games, Gomez has recorded 755 points, including 181 goals and 574 assists. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, after having won with New Jersey in 2000 and in 2003.
Gomez was originally drafted by New Jersey in the first round (27th overall) of the 1998 NHL Draft.
