News Release: Senators sign forward Phil Varone to a one-year, two-way contract

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed forward Phil Varone to a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will carry an annual value of $700,000 in the National Hockey League and $325,000 in the American Hockey League.

A native of Vaughan, Ont., Varone was acquired by the Senators on Feb. 27 along with forward Jason Akeson, defenceman Jerome Gauthier-Leduc and a conditional draft pick from the Buffalo Sabres. Following his acquisition, he recorded six goals and 23 points in 21 games with the B-Sens.

Varone was recalled to Ottawa on April 9, recording an assist in Ottawa’s 6-1 season-ending victory against the Boston Bruins. The 25-year-old has played in 43 career National Hockey League games with Ottawa and Buffalo, recording five goals and 10 points.

In 327 career AHL games with Rochester and Binghamton, he has scored 74 goal and added 173 assists for 247 points, while adding 192 penalty minutes.
