OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has signed defenceman Marc Methot to a four-year contract extension which will run through the end of the 2018-19 NHL season. The average annual value of the contract is $4.9 million (Salary is $4.9 million in each of the four seasons).
Methot, 29, has recorded five assists, 10 penalty minutes and a plus-eight rating in 17 games with the Senators this season, having missed 37 games due to injury. He has also appeared in one game with the Binghamton Senators on a conditioning assignment.
The 6-3, 230-pound, native of Ottawa has scored eight goals 31 assists for 39 points in 138 games with the Senators since being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a trade on July 1, 2012. He has added one goal and four assists in 10 playoff games with Ottawa.
Prior to joining the Senators, Methot had spent his entire NHL career with the Blue Jackets, recording seven goals, 55 assists and 208 penalty minutes in 275 regular-season games.
Methot was drafted by Columbus with its sixth-round pick (168th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
