OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed defenceman Fredrik Claesson on a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will carry an annual value of $700,000 in the National Hockey League and of $100,000 in the American Hockey League.

Claesson, 23, appeared in 55 games for the B-Sens last season, scoring three goals and adding seven assists for 10 points, while recording 50 penalty minutes. A Stockholm native, Claesson was recalled to Ottawa on Dec. 30 and made his NHL debut that evening against the New Jersey Devils.

In 16 NHL games with the Senators, Claesson registered two assists and two penalty minutes. He recorded his first NHL point in a 5-3 home setback to the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 5.

The Senators’ fifth-round selection (126th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, Claesson has recorded 69 points (13 goals, 56 assists) and 182 penalty minutes over 276 AHL contests, all of which have occurred with the B-Sens.
