OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) today recalled goaltender Chris Driedger on an emergency basis from the club’s ECHL affiliate, the Evansville IceMen.
Driedger, 20, leads IceMen netminders with eight victories this season while having registered two shutout wins and a goals-against-average of 3.75. He has also appeared in two regular-season contests with Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, and earned a win on both occasions.
A Winnipeg native, Driedger completed his fourth season of major junior hockey with the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen in 2013-14 and established a new major junior career high with a .918 save percentage, which ranked fifth among WHL goaltenders, while tying for seventh in the WHL with 28 victories. He became the sixth goaltender in WHL history to be credited with a goal when he recorded one of his team’s two markers in a 5-2 loss at Kootenay on Jan. 31, 2014.
Driedger was originally selected by Ottawa in the third round, 76th overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft.
The Senators return to action tomorrow evening when they host Montreal at 7 p.m.
