News Release: Senators partner with Microsoft Canada to unite young business minds

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) and the Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation) have partnered with Microsoft Canada (@MicrosoftEduCA) to launch the “Get Your Game On” contest. The contest is open to all elementary and high school students in Ottawa and aims to empower young minds with opportunities in education and entrepreneurship. Students will be encouraged to adopt entrepreneurial or social-related undertakings as change-makers and identify solutions to project challenges. Winners will be selected based on creativity and presentation methods while utilizing free Microsoft tools, such as Office 365 and Sway. Final projects will be uploaded to the Senators website via

In the entrepreneurship section, classes can select from three different project ideas: Sell Ottawa - The development of a recruitment plan to entice fictional free agent hockey players to Ottawa; Get Creative - The creation of a new in-game promotion for use at Canadian Tire Centre, or Market It - The design of a new marketing plan and season theme for the Senators.

The social responsibility component also includes three separate project ideas: Think Green, Go Red - The development of a plan to reduce Canadian Tire Centre’s eco-footprint; Give Back - The creation of a new fundraising idea for students’ respective classes, or Get Physical - The development of a school fitness plan. A fourth available option called would see students combine entrepreneurship and social responsibility ideas when presenting their own ideas.

Grand prize winners from one elementary school and one high school from each of the respective focus areas (four winners in all) will receive two tickets to a Senators game for each student in the classroom, including teachers, while also having their project featured on Canadian Tire Centre’s Bell HD screen during the game. Additionally, winning classrooms will receive a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet and a professional development session for their schools’ faculty,hosted by Microsoft.

The contest, which opened on Jan. 27, will close on Feb. 29.
