News Release: Senators extend partnership with StubHub to include ticket barcode integration

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today plans to employ new technology to authenticate tickets resold through their long-time partner, StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace. In collaboration with Spectra Ticketing & Fan Engagement (formerly Paciolan), the Senators become the first Canadian sports franchise to employ a ticket barcode integration system with StubHub.

This ticketing integration will enable Senators ticket holders to seamlessly resell their tickets on StubHub, while offering buyers added security as new barcodes are reissued to the buyer once the ticket is purchased. This industry-leading technology provides tickets that are digitally delivered to the buyer and provides options for print-at-home and mobile phone fulfillment. StubHub becomes the sole authenticated partner of the Senators that can guarantee fans access into games.

“With the digital ticket marketplace always evolving, this partnership is extremely important to our business and more importantly our fans,” said Peter O’Leary, Ottawa Senators chief marketing officer and vice-president of ticketing. “StubHub’s integration feature gives us the ability to authenticate tickets in real-time helping us in a variety of ways, including alleviating fraudulent reselling. We can now add StubHub alongside Capital Tickets as the only authorized ticket vendors for Ottawa Senators games.”

“In addition to authentication, this agreement, along with our Ticket Trade and charitable donation programs, allows our fans the opportunity to sell tickets from their season-seat packages on the open market for the games they are not able to attend,” added O’Leary. “We feel this will address a longstanding challenge for fans who wish to experience the benefits of season-seat membership, but are not able to attend all 41 home games.”

The partnership between the Senators and StubHub began during the 2012-13 National Hockey League season and represented StubHub’s first official marketing sponsorship with a Canadian sports team. This agreement continues to include the designation of StubHub as the Senators’ official fan-to-fan ticket marketplace and StubHub branding visible at all Senators home games at Canadian Tire Centre as well as across the club’s web and social marketing channels. StubHub will also run in-game promotions that can include ticket upgrades, and “can’t-buy” experiences such as watching pre-game warm-ups from the penalty box.

What is Ticket Authentication?

When tickets are authenticated, it means that the Ottawa Senators have verified that the tickets are valid for the hockey game, concert or event. Outside of the Senators’-owned Capital Tickets and StubHub, no other ticket reseller can make this claim. Some ticketing websites may “guarantee” the tickets, but that does not mean the actual ticket has been validated. It does mean the buyer is intended to receive a refund if the ticket is not valid. Capital Tickets and the Ottawa Senators along with our partner Stub Hub are the only ticket sellers able to guarantee you access to an event, removing any risk of purchasing online.
