News Release: Senators encourage fans to arrive early on Thursday ahead of opening night festivities

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today additional details for the team’s home opener, which will take place tomorrow evening at Canadian Tire Centre (@CdnTireCtr) when the team hosts the Colorado Avalanche. The evening will feature a red carpet event and pre-game festivities in the Red Zone, limited-edition Senators scarves courtesy of Scotiabank, in addition to what should be an exceptional on-ice projection show and player introductions.

Opening night festivities in the Red Zone

The Red Zone and Molson Canadian Hockey House will officially open at 4 p.m. when opening night festivities get underway. Fans are encouraged to make their way to the red carpet (rain or shine) outside the Gate 1 entrance of Canadian Tire Centre no later than 4:30 p.m. to welcome players, hockey personnel, Spartacat, Senators broadcast personalities and the Canadian Prime Minister caricatures as they make their way into the arena.

As the presenting sponsor of opening night, Scotiabank will provide fans with an opportunity to meet former Senators goaltender Ron Tugnutt in Red Zone and obtain his autograph. By posting a photo on Twitter or Instragram using the hashtag #The5thSeason, fans can instantly print a photo from the meet and greet at the Scotiabank Instaprint Station located in the Red Zone.

The plaza will feature live entertainment, face painting and balloon artists courtesy of Mattamy Homes – the presenting sponsor of the Senators’ 2014-15 season – Coca-Cola’s Hug Machine, where members of the Sens Army can hug the machine to obtain a free can of Coke, the opportunity to create an oversized hockey card by having your picture taken by members of the Canadian Tire promo team, in addition to interactive components from the Sens Street Tour. TSN 1200 will also be on-site broadcasting its pre-game show live from inside the Gate 1 entrance.

On-ice projection show and player introductions

With the help of TKNL Experience Markers, the Senators have created a multi-media pre-game show that will feature 3D animation, incredible visual effects, video highlights and a unique audio track featuring Canadian rock band Thousand Foot Krutch. Fans are encouraged to take their seats by 7:15 p.m. to witness the team’s pre-game celebration that will turn the 200-foot ice surface into a projection screen. Those in attendance will also get an opportunity to see how the newly installed Ephesus Lighting system can help transform the game entertainment experience with special effects and animation. Player introductions will take place immediately following the on-ice projection show.

Limited-edition Scotiabank scarves and Scotiabank Shootout

Courtesy of Scotiabank, the presenting sponsor of opening night, each fan in attendance for Thursday’s home opener will receive a limited-edition Senators scarf. Scarves will be placed on each seat in the bowl for members of the Sens Army to wear during the pre-game celebrations. Additionally, one child attending Thursday’s home opener will have the opportunity to win $2,500 in the form of a contribution to his/her Registered Education Savings Plan during the Scotiabank Shootout, an on-ice activity that will take place during the first intermission.

Parking and traffic updates

With the ongoing construction and lane reductions on Hwy. 417, the Senators are encouraging fans to arrive early to avoid any delays due to traffic on Thursday evening. To kick-off the pre-game celebrations, the club will be offering free general parking in Lot 5 and Lot 9 to game attendees prior to the Red Zone’s opening at 4 p.m.

Post-game, Huntmar Dr. from Cyclone Taylor Blvd. will operate with two lanes heading northbound across the Hwy. 417 overpass to Campeau Dr. and around the newly constructed roundabout. From the roundabout, vehicles will have access to Hwy. 417 via the Palladium Dr. interchange. This change will improve the traffic flow at the Cyclone Taylor Blvd./Huntmar Dr. intersection. Additional changes to improve egress times are expected to be complete in November.
