News Release: Senators announce details for opening night at Canadian Tire Centre

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) today announced plans for their 2014-15 season home opener, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 16, when the team hosts the Colorado Avalanche at Canadian Tire Centre (@CdnTireCtr). Each fan in attendance for Thursday’s home opener will receive a limited-edition Senators scarf courtesy of Scotiabank, the presenting sponsor of opening night.

To officially open the 2014-15 season, presented by Mattamy Homes, the Ottawa Senators will be offering free general parking to game attendees in Lot 5 and Lot 9 prior to 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Fans are encouraged to make their way to the Red Zone, which is located at the Gate 1 entrance of Canadian Tire Centre, by 4:30 p.m. to welcome the players as they walk the red carpet prior to entering the arena for Thursday’s game. The players will be joined by members of the team’s management, coaching staff, Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, and Senators broadcast personalities. The team will arrive in vehicles provided by Capital Dodge and then proceed down the red carpet where fans can interact with the players and obtain photos as they make their way into the arena.

In addition to the 24 members of the Senators current roster, fans lining the red carpet will also get an up-close look at the Senators’ newest employees – Sir John A. MacDonald, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Sir Robert Borden and William Lyon MacKenzie King. Inspired by the Washington Nationals Presidents Race, the late Canadian Prime Minister caricatures will play an integral part in the Senators in-game entertainment experience this season.

Red Zone at Canadian Tire Centre’s Gate 1

The Red Zone and Molson Canadian Hockey House will open at 4 p.m. in advance of the red carpet experience. As proud partners of the Ottawa Senators, Canadian Tire, Coca-Cola and Scotiabank will celebrate with fans to kick-off the home portion of the Senators schedule. The plaza will feature live entertainment, interactive games – including interactive components from the Sens Street Tour – balloonists and face painters, while TSN 1200 will be broadcasting its pre-game show live from inside the Gate 1 entrance. Opening weekend festivities will continue in the Red Zone on Saturday, Oct. 18, when the Senators host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The multi-media show will be a highlight of the team’s pre-game entertainment through Wednesday, Oct. 22, when the club hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs during its annual Hockey Fights Cancer night.
