News Release: Senators announce 2014-15 regular-season schedule

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA - The National Hockey League and the Ottawa Senators today announced the 2014-15 regular-season schedule, which will see the club open on the road when it visits the Predators at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Senators will begin the season with a three-game road trip before opening their home schedule at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday, Oct. 16, when they host the Colorado Avalanche. The 82-game calendar concludes when Ottawa visits the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, April 11.

The home schedule is highlighted by 12 Saturday contests, including nine night games and three afternoon matchups. The regular-season home schedule at Canadian Tire Centre includes 32 games from Thursday to Sunday as follows: Thursday (13), Friday (two), Saturday (12) and Sunday (five). The remaining nine home games will be early-weekday contests evenly spread with three apiece on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

"We are very pleased with this season’s schedule,” said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. “Each year, we work very closely with the National Hockey League to develop our game schedule with our fans' interests in mind. The feedback to us from our fans was a desire for more Saturday night home games.  We are very happy that our 2014-15 schedule will see a stronger focus on Saturday home games with nine night games and three afternoon games."

Once again, the Senators’ 2014-15 regular-season schedule will feature home and road games against every NHL team. The Senators will face two of their Atlantic Division rivals five times (Boston and Toronto) and will play four games against the remaining five teams (Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montreal and Tampa Bay). Ottawa will play the remaining eight teams in the Eastern Conference on three occasions, and will play a home-and-home series against all 14 Western Conference clubs.

The Senators will play 17 games at Canadian Tire Centre in the first half of the season and 24 home games in the second half. The team will play 10 games in October (five home, five away), 13 in November (five-eight), 12 in December (six-six), 12 in January (six-six), 13 in February (seven-six), 16 in March (nine-seven) and six in April (three-three) to round out the schedule.

The Stanley Cup-champion Los Angeles Kings make their only regular-season visit to Ottawa on Thursday, Dec. 11, while the Senators will visit the City of Angels on Thursday, Feb. 26.

The 2015 NHL all-star celebration will take place in Columbus, Ohio, when the Blue Jackets host the event at Nationwide Arena for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25.
